There is a reason for the lack of clarity, over compression and slightly odd frequency resonse (EQ)
It's deliberate, the actual track is pristine, BUT although I don't mind others using it, SOME players unscrupulously use backing tracks not made by themselves on CD recordings that they sell or at least give away as examples of their work often claiming to have done it all.
The number of occasions I've come across steel guitar instrumentals on the internet where the backing track is one that I did for Tune 1000, Hands on or any of the many other midifile companies I supply, It really annoys me when others take credit for work that's NOT theirs..
I recall a tape supplied to the BMG tape club and also sold commercially where Pat was the rhythm guitarist and my son Mike played keyboards and was involved in the recording BUT the steel player who 'released' the tape claimed it (on the sleeve notes) as ALL his own work..
Plagiarism is rife everywhere and no more or less than in the steel guitar world; On a duet recording of two prominent American steel players the recorded Tiger Shark(
*)and used the intro of jaws claiming the idea as theirs when in fact it was stolen off an Idea of Mike Henrick on an AM-PM recording a few years earlier than their claimed "Original Idea" NOTE FOR NOTE. It's a pity their arrangement of Tiger Shark was so badly interpreted. I learned the tune and it's nuances of interpretation from it's composer directly [he was a friend..] RIP Peter Hodgkinson.
