Or is it the lack of either? As you will know I have a couple of adverts on the forum, one for my MCI and the other for my Lap Steel. I have (through my private email address) had some really ridiculous, in fact insulting offers for both of these instruments. Even after I stated that the price of the MCI was non negotiable, I still had people (including members) offering me silly prices. I have in the past sold guitars to people for far less than their true value, (as has John Davis) to people who have shown a real interest in the instrument, I, and I am sure John will continue to offer any help we can. I am not a steel guitar teacher but I am perfectly willing to sit with anyone and show you what I know for as long as you like, "You want another lesson? Go get the Jack Daniels!

Dave - you have raised a very good point. However the number of people who 'try it on' with derisory offers on quality instruments is very low thank goodness. A little while back in August, the wife of a friend who was terminally ill contacted me and asked me to sell his black D10 Emmons for him. I put an ad on the for sale section of this forum, with offers invited from £1500 for a quick sale, and had one offer via email of £200, and another of £350. These 2 idiots are chancers or opportunists, and definitely not genuine musicians. As I desperately needed to get the money to the family while my friend was still alive, I took an offer that was way below the true market value of the Emmons but was still a lot higher than the 2 pi$$ takers had offered.

I would say that sellers on here should not indicate that they are desperate to sell an instrument for whatever reason, as it just encourages pond life to try to rip off the seller. I told my mate Ron Mawn in his last few weeks that his stunning birds eye lacquer Emmons D10 should not be given away, and fortunately he agreed. I held out for £2.5K and felt that was a fair price which still represented a bargain for someone who wanted a quality guitar that was in extraordinary condition.

phenomenon, here in France, where morons have made derisery comments about items I have for sale and rediculous offers. These are not music related, but it seems many of the Brit franternity are just out to be down-right rude or just plain insulting in a bid to get somlething for nothing. I am not what you would consider a musician...those who have heard me play will testify to this fact, but I have made some pretty good LSG's and a solid body guitar, which I have given to youngsters who have shown a genuine interest in both music and my humble offerings. It is just a sad fact of today, all those who try to help less fortunate people, friends or family are treated badly by a few. None of you are out to score brownie points, you are out to help and promote music and PSG/LSG and may you long continue to do so. Don't let them get to you, they run out of friends eventually and become lonely bitter people.

If they are members of this forum and have made such derisory offers, let us know who they are.

When I saw Ken advertising an Emmons D10 for £1500 I would have been in like lightning, save for a Ben-Rom on order. I'd have offered full price, no haggling.

I've got £2k+ invested in my Ben-Rom and if I shuffle off tomorrow, I'd like my wife to get a decent return on it, not the derisory amounts Dave and Ken have experienced.

(BTW - Ben-Rom - great guitars!)
