There is plenty work out there !

Postby Zumbilly(Murdoch) » Mon Aug 10, 2015 8:14 am

I saw an advert recently from a local singer/song writer looking for players to contribute to a C.D. of original material.
It was pointed out that the advertiser could not afford to employ session musicians although they did say that all persons answering the advert must be top players !! They were looking for,,,Drummer,Bass, lead guitar.pedal steel.banjo.mandolin.fiddle and keys.to get together and become familiar with the material and then record.
I sent a reply, out of curiosity asking what the incentive was for TOP players to give up their time free gratis? were there any forthcoming gigs ,shows etc., The reply (very polite) was that there are a great many players who are happy to just play for the love of it and the experience of being with other first class players is reward in itself.
I wished them all the very best in the project.
I guess a guy who is a super player could have a very busy career playing for nowt.

Aye Billy, in Leverndale.

You know me Billy, I probably play more charity gigs per annum than most, but that is my choice to do so, I like to put a bit back as they say, but i point blank refuse to be ripped off by these chancers who are so up there own fundimental orifices that they think every bugger wants to work for them for nothing, and who will benefit in the end, certainly not the players who are essentially there to make them sound good.

thats enough for me I´ll have to go now gad the heat dont you know don´t you know´

Willie
I agree with You entirely and commend You for all the Charity work You do.
I have often let it be known that I will be more than happy to do free work for a good cause.
I just thought that this person was being a bit OTT in asking for first class players to give their time to the project.
Enjoy the rest of Your holiday ,the temperature in Maryhill today is a sweltering 10 degreases.

Like most of us I get quite a few requests to do recording work for free. Very occasionally I will do this, mainly for up and coming singer/songwriters who are serious about their craft but don't have any spare cash to pay for someone to session on their recordings. I do it on the proviso that the songs and performance are of a really good standard, and that if they have any commercial success they remember me and others who have enhanced their track(s) at their own cost.

The vast majority of the people who want freebies done get a polite refusal from me, as I have more than enough paying customers who want to use my services. It is unfair to charge £100 an hour to one person and nowt to another. I leave that to those folks who are attracted by the proposition of doing recording work regardless, and they are out there. They know who they are, and good luck to them. There are plenty of p*ss takers who will take advantage if you let them. I just don't need a load of that kind of work thanks, and agree with Billy and Willie.
