What a shame that this 'greatest teacher in the whole world' wasn't around when I needed him.

He assures us that, as long as we have a rudimentary understanding of a regular guitar, a pedal steel guitar is 'a total breeze'.

I had no idea it was so simple, but now I come to think about it, there is one very famous old man, with a rudimentary knowledge of regular guitar, who has obviously signed up to this water-walking maestro, and has given the world a lot of satisfaction with his steel playing.

If I had known of this unassuming mega steel teacher during my formative years, it would have saved me from having 19 nervous breakdowns

The real pity about this gentleman and his sales pitch is that some people who don't know any different will be impressed enough by his spiel to buy a DVD from him. To rubbish all of the other players who have put out teaching material on the web is ludicrous when you look at his standard.

If you look at his bar positioning, he is placing the bar between the frets at some points. Intonation is a word that is not in his vocabulary. I think that if you are going to teach any subject to people, then the least you can do is to be competent yourself.

Who is the worst player between him and Ronnie Wood? I honestly couldn't say, but they both deserve to be locked in a room together so that they can play their one lick to each other ad infinitum.

I would rather stick pins in my eyes than listen to either of them.

I love the bit where he says "1 week - boom, you're done!" Well that might be his standard after 1 week of playing, but I would guess that most people would want to get to a reasonable level. No shortcut to that apart from loads of practise and experience.

A bit like Bert Weedon's Play In A Day. It depends entirely on what you call playing. At least Bert has never slagged off other teaching methods, and that's why his book has made him a small fortune and why this guy won't do the same with his DVD's.
