8 String Pedal Steel

Does anyone know of any builders in the UK or Europe that make 8 string pedal steels.

The only option I am aware of would be to find a used Fender 400 which is proving difficult.

Something more modern with knee levers would be fantastic.

Something like this would be great but after adding on shipping and import duties, it would work out pretty pricey.

Why?
10 string much more readily available. If it's of great necessity to have only 8 strings, you can always take 2 off a 10 string...

I'm primarily a non-pedal player but need a few pedal steel sounds for one of the bands I've been playing with.

I've been using a Fessenden 6 shooter but fancied something with a bit more scope.

Whenever I've tried a 10 stringer I don't like the narrow string spacing.

An 8 stringer with the same spacing as my Stringmaster, that would be my familiar A6 with pedals 1 & 2 down would be perfect for me.

I'd use my Fender 1000 but it's too darn heavy.

I have been looking at them and am seriously considering one. Basically strings 3-8 of the standard E9 with all the pedals and levers but much smaller and lighter than a 10 stringer. The demo video looks impressive.

I reckon it would take me a while to exhaust the possibilities of that one.

Now, if I can just flog my Fender 1000...
