Vertical knee lever.

Postby dave hepworth » Sat Mar 21, 2015 5:48 pm

Hi Folks,
I have always used my LVL for experimentation, until now.About 6 months ago I tried pulling 5 up three semitones to D .This is one of the most useful changes I have come across. This enables playing inside the usual grips without having to go for string 2 down 1 .
The result is you can get the obvious Dom7th in open position pulling up with LVL.However the real fun starts when you use it in conjunction with AB, (Emmons).it is really useful here and passing notes are easily obtainable,as well as new diatonic triad positions. This is a keeper for me ,it opens up SO much.Anyone else use this? If so comments would be nice. Thanks for looking ,regards Dave.

Nice idea, Dave. I really love my LKV and wouldn't be without it. Mine is the usual -1 semitone on 5, but I could immediately imagine what advantages you were describing, as I have wondered how I might arrive at the same situation myself, the idea being to get that note without having to move the bar I think. You'll probably get more (and more detailed) replies on the SGF, you should post this query there too.

Hi Will,
To get the D on string 2 ---I would lower by using another kneel ever I have ,but that means using string 2 which is outside normal grips and would break the flow making the musical passage less fluid if you see what I mean.

My thinking too. I hardly ever use the 2nd string, except eg going for the V chord: at 8, open = C, by hitting 1,2 and 5 you get the G.
