I never mean to be one to ruffle feathers but i'm really bored of this sort of thing now. That inoffensive tone, those backing tracks. Do we really need to hear Together again and again and again? Zane's a great technician but i just find it all a bit uninspiring. Rant over.

His tone is not the worst I've heard, but his use of the volume pedal on this piece just raises the 'whine' factor. Zane is very highly rated by the bedroom players in the USA, but (privately) some of the pro's that I know over there don't care for his playing. He doesn't have the taste that sets the real master players apart, especially his fast picking. However, some here may disagree, so I won't lay into Zane too heavily. :o

Remember watching him at Dallas, think it was Jackson room, I was with another UK player, we watched for a short while, looked at each other and walked away, did he really need to play twenty notes when two or three would have sounded better ( in my opinion)-- No.The old saying about these speed pickers came to mind "I wish I could play like that -then I wouldn't" , much prefer someone who plays with feeling.

Surely that's what it's all about, every one plays a different style and there's something to learn. The bored part would be, if everyone was the same.....A little of everyone is good ( as long as they CAN play!!!)

Barry, I can't speed pick to save my self,in fact I'm a fairly average player, if that, but I like it in appropriate numbers, in every number --no. Yes it is great to have different styles of playing and there are some great players out there, but from a personal point of view ,I would rather listen to someone who plays with feeling eg think John Hughey ,Mike Johnson etc, rather than someone who plays like a robot, with no feeling, and I've seen a few of those over the years, just my humble opinion.

Those clips of Tommy White take my breath away every time I watch them. He is the governor of speed picking, and I have seen them all. Zane King doesn't play as musically as Tommy when he is playing fast stuff. I saw Tommy White playing behind the Whites at a show last year, and he did a solo on C6 in an up tempo gospel number that was so blisteringly fast it just took my breath away. That thumb and middle finger of his are just a blur at times. Note how his little finger is tucked under - all the really fast speed pickers I have ever seen have the same picking hand with the 3rd and pinky tucked under. The only other players that I have seen live who are as fast as Tommy are Paul Franklin and 'flying fingers' himself, Buck Reid.

Just a few points, then I'm going to bow out because, I maybe hearing things differently!!.. like Slowly, Pass Me By and I Can't stop loving You, to name a few standards that he plays. I only dream of playing like that ( some other songs are over played I agree) but no feeling.
That's it from a very not so good player, enjoy loving the sound of a Beautifui instrument.
Barry.
