Amplifiers

Just a wee blether about amps,
I have been doing a few practise sessions with a band at a local studio and have been using the supplied amp,no use in humping all My gear .The amp I have been using was a Marshall head(JCM or JTM ) to a Marshall 4 cab.Pretty crap for steel but good enough for a jam session.Last night I had a Roland Jazz Chorus which was laying in the store at the studio,Man what a difference,Clean and loud with good reverb and so easy to dial in a tone which was nice. Why does My Cube 80xl with the JC setting not sound the least bit like the real JC,?
The real J.C is a hefty amp and I would not even think of purchasing one Just wondering if anyone else has used one for Pedal Steel.

Billy, have used Jazz Chorus in a studio, sounded good, also used a Peavey Vyper? , this also sounded good.Any Marshall, either combo or head have all sounded crap.Still say your Ritt, through your Cube sounded amazing.

Back in the day some 30 years ago when I was still using a Fender Twin with JBL's, I tried my D10 Sho~Bud through a couple of amps in a music shop in Bristol. One was a padded and quilted covered Kustom steel combo with 15" speaker, and the other one was a JC-120. Both amps were solid state, and sounded a bit sterile compared to the Twin Reverb. The Roland was very heavy, not as heavy as my Twin, but still lumpy to carry. The stereo 60w + 60w Roland felt as though it had more poke than the 100w Kustom. I didn't like my Tele through the JC-120 or the Kustom, and didn't do a deal for either. Solid state amps have moved on big time, and my Webb and Telonics combos are both vastly superior to those two SS amps that I tried out all those years ago. :o

For many years I used a Fender twin on top of a JC 120 and tween the two could always dial in the sound I wanted but a lot of how you hear yourself is down to the acoustics of the room, I recall one gig where I just used the JC and was very happy with it.I am now content with my two cubes and will not be lugging that heavy stuff any more......Cubes and JBL E120's is the way to go IMHO...... ;)

I don't use 'heavy stuff' either. My amps have either Telonics or Eminence EPS 12C speakers in them now and are lightweight. 8-)

Noticed on Gerry's web site that with Peavey UK closed down the Nashville 112 (UK version) is not now available.Any body know what their plans are for repairs etc? I would imagine this greatly limits the market for anyone looking to buy a Peavey steel amp, don't suppose the new RR model will be available in UK/EU version either.Sort of opens the door to Roland Cubes.

Ken, notice the price on Peavey site is now£885, Gerry had them advertised for £779, but my understanding is that they are not available now, or possibly will not be available in UK format in future. They seem to have a company handling warranty claims, but not doing repairs or mods, this would now be down to your local Peavey dealer and whatever local tech he uses, although where you will get spares is ambiguous.Reading some articles on web it suggests they "might" set up a distribution centre in The Far East at some point in future, so don't know if you can order one from US ( through dealer), if Gerry can't get them doesn't look hopeful for anyone wanting one.
