The British Steelies Society

Last night the Northern Ireland Steel Guitar Assoc. held its monthly meeting in Lisburn Co.Antrim.

We had the pleasure of having Mr.John Davis as our guest player. Unfortunately a lot of our regular players were on holiday, but the numbers were made up by an audience of steel guitar fans.

In the audience was a 4 piece vocal group who delighted us with some Country Gospel.

After the coffee break, John took centre stage and played a 20 minute set useing his own backing tracks .... what a treat. John was playing his Emmons SD10 (what else) thru his Roland Cube (fitted with a 12" JBL) During the break, he sat behind my new "Infinity" SD10 ...... his comments! Wonderful tone and playability Everyone enjoyed the evening in a very relaxed atmosphere. Thank you John for your visit .... you are welcome anytime, and that goes for any steel player who happens to be in our location on the first Monday of any month.

Over the years we have had some great players featured at our club ... The late Jeff Newman, DeWitt Scott (Scotty), Sarah Jory, Derek Thurlby, Dave Kirk, Richard Nelson,Bob Adams,Allan Thompson,Percy Robinson,David Hartley and our own Steve Smyth. Next on the hit list is my ole mate Ken Byng.

Too bad your numbers were down but it sounds like you had a great night! Sooopah!

Like the new venue Ted!

I would like to echo what Ted has written above.

A great night was had by all who were present, very enjoyable indeed.

I enjoyed both John and Ted doing what they both do so well, and for the record, Ted always sounds good no matter
which guitar he plays----if anyone wants a lesson on how to play tasteful, steel guitar, with first class tone, they should
listen to Ted----------his only fault in my humble opinion is that he remains far to modest about his ability.

We are blessed by other very good players in the NISGA, ie Roy, Ivan etc as well as Ted, but this little ramble is dedicated to Ted.

Again thanks again to Ted, Sammy, and team, and not to forget the most important part of all the great Mondays nights,
Margaret and team, providing the tea coffee, and sarnies in the kitchen.

Great looking venue Ted. JD looked well at home there.

Thanks David and Ken for the kind comments. If Ken Byng likes your playing your not doing too bad. He is a very
accomplished player, and Im really looking forward to his set in Dublin. He tells me he will be bringing his new Telonics
Combo amp. Thanks to all our members and visitors who attended our last meeting.
