Fender Ramparte.

Just when you decide it ain't worth it anymore something pops up. I have just done a deal with a guy, (it was a repair job) and he offered me a Fender Ramparte as part payment. I'd never heard of one before but he brought it to my house and I thought he was joking, but believe me It is incredible. 9 watts that will knock spots off any solid state amp.
It is so simple, it has two inputs, a cool which is a very clean input and a hot which is a sort of overdrive input, but the volume this little amp kicks out is amazing. It has a 12" speaker which has to be said is the only thing that lets it down. A good speaker and there is very little if anything to touch this amp given it's size.

It is one of the Fender Pawn shop series, it has 2 x 12AX7 preamp valves and a 6L6 output valve, no tone controls just a volume control for each of the channels. I plugged in the Carter starter and even my wife could not believe the volume and tone of this amp. Ok your not going to do a live gig with this as lead players are going to kill you but mic this up to a PA and you can do the biz.

For small gigs this is more than adequet. It really does have a real natural sound. Jimmy Crawford said to me at the Newbury festival that you really don't need tone controls, a good pickup and a good amplifier is all you need, the rest is up to you. I believe that is true. By the way these amps seem to have a fixed price of £264 which is a bit more than the guy owed me, so I am a very happy little bunny. Ok very happy old git!!!!!!
