Let's imagine You have a majic telephone and You can make one ten minute call to any pedal steel player (alive or deceased)
Who would You call.?
I would call John Hughey. I just loved John.
Perhaps We can expand this by stating what You would ask during the call?
Billy

Billy, you wouldn't get through to John Hughey, his line would be engaged, he would be speaking to me!

It's gotta be Tom Brumley for me, and the first thing that I would ask would be
" Tell me how to got that tone on Dwight Yokam's 'The Heart That You Own', and Chris Isaak's 'Except The New Girl', and countless other songs"

For me it would have to be Don Helms. To me, his tone on Walking After Midnight is perfection.

Now for me it would have to be Weldon Myrick. I would ask if I could have his hands sewn onto my arms. Superb player

Well!!..Tommy White floats my boat, Big Time! Phenomenal on both necks! What a Wow! Player!!!! ....................
But closer to home….. The bold ‘Hartley’ ticks the boxes on E9th and no mistake!.... He works it!!! And it shows! Love or loath this steel player!
Is he the best there is on E9th in the UK at point this time???
Edited to 'more appropriate' wording! 9/10
