I have been using Cobra Coils for a few years and am well pleased with them.I have tried (over the years) several other brands and I suppose the Jagwires are in My opinion a close second.I doubt if We will see Jags again unless someone buys the name.
At Dallas this year Gary Rittenberry gave Me a couple of sets of GHS to try,one of the sets is Boomers and the other is flat wound.
I installed the flat wound on the Rittenberry yesterday and was pretty amazed at how smooth they felt,I actually thought the 7th and 8th were plain.They took a bit longer to settle,seemed to stretch a fair bit,soundwise I am not sure. the tone is a little sharp and perhaps a bit lifeless at home volumes,I very much doubt if I will change from the Cobra Coils.
Does anyone else have an opinion of strings(good or bad) There used to be a fair bit of discussion on them over on the U.S.Forum but nothing much here.

Cobras all the way for me Billy, just superb all round. I like their tension, longevity and and tone. However if I am pushed I will use SIT stainless.

GHS Boomers are liked and used by many in the USA.

Re the Jagwires, a lot of the guys on the USA forum have chipped in donations to keep them going. Not sure why they would want to bail out someone who lets say hasn't handled the business with care.

Ken think that might be because in my opinion they are the best strings I have ever used, a view shared by numerous US players, and in fact no less than Mullen guitars.I managed to get a couple of sets from Jean Hughey but there were no others available at Dallas.I personally hope the the company survives whether run by Danny or by someone else should they buy it out, as long as the quality remains.

Rebecca is still selling lots of the S.I.T strings, Stainless and nickel, if I thought there was something better I would get her to stock them..... , but I still say "If they are good enough for Buddy Emmons they are good enough for me " And at £6 a set for E9th. I can change them as often as I want .....

i use & like Jagwires - Russ Hicks on E9 - i really like the 11.5 on 3rd string - John Hughey on C6
i don't really know what has caused Danny's demise - i chipped in & sincerely hope he'll get back up
Cobra coils are excellent strings as well & well priced
SITs are very good too -
as mentioned some builders put GHS on their steels - Zumsteels & the Stage One come w: them
i have'nt really tried them, so i can't say much about them
if Jagwire does'nt return, i'll go for the Cobra coils

Personally I've never noticed much difference between string manufacturers once strings have been on a day and settled,
I've made up sets from D'Addario singles which seem fine as long as I didn't use the brighter higher carbon steeel .11s that I tried (in cheaper 5-packs) which were prone to breaking. I have used Jagwire (Sigler), but have had .11 breakages, maybe these are are also higher carbon for brightness. Currently I am trying GHS Boomers. My first set has been on for a couple of weeks and seems fine. I bought a couple of the custom GHS Progressive sets that b0b started selling on US forum. Will try them next.

My experience of using Jagwire strings was not a positive one. I bought 6 sets from Bobby Lee Quasar. Each set had minor corroded areas (rust) on the plain strings, really annoying when you slide the bar up and down and hit that bad sector.

SIT's are less of a problem that way, but Cobra's have always been perfectly functional each time I put on a new set every 2 or 3 weeks. Watching the Jagwire situation from afar, I don't think the company will continue because the present owners have lost goodwill with their suppliers.

guess i've been lucky Ken - no corrosion or rust on mine
that is something i'm always on the look out for
the only mishap i had was a bigger gauge in a bunch of 11.5s - b0b fixed that
i prefer stainless over nickel
what i like about SITs is they have 2 3rd strings - now that's great !

Guys check out b0b's forum , new string company making strings specifically for PSG.$13.50 forE9th set nickel or stainless.Be interesting to see reports on them.
