The British Steelies Society

Hey everyone, hope you’re doing well!

I’m touring Europe for a month with Sarah Shook & the Disarmers, and my baggage with my pedal steel legs was lost by airlines. I have literally all of my pedal steel and its accessories besides the four legs to stand it up and set everything up (I do have pedal bar and rods).

I am having to play each show lap/console steel style by resting the pedal steel on a table and pretty much playing slide guitar style. Certainly not ideal for a month, especially with specific parts and solos for the songs.

Would any fellow forum members here be willing to lend me some legs to help get through this tour. Whether it’s for one night, multiple nights, or even the whole run, it would be super helpful as I don’t know of many other options at this point.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Had to fly my pedal steel legs in my clothing luggage to keep pedal steel under 70 lbs for flight…can find clothes much easier than pedal steel legs

Given my various adventures on the steel, I often feel like there's not really much of a 'Steelies Society" out there to support people (nutters?) like me...but I digress. Every now and again, my heart is genuinely warmed by real 'social' behaviour; and your offer to help Casey is a great case in point. I know this isn't the first time you've come to other people's aid on the forum (one that sticks in my mind is the short guy whose Williams Guitar legs were too long...ironically, this guy's moniker is "HighriseJusus"...obviously not highrise enough!!). But just to say, you should be congratulated, John on your society-spirit...good on you!

I hoped it all worked out, but even if it didn't the message remains the same.

Gary, having just held the North of England Steel Guitar Festival with many very loyal and regular, plus several new, attendees, I can't agree with your assumption that there's of much of a "Steelies Society" out there (BTW, I hate the word Steelie ). The attendees came from Glasgow to Blackpool to Shropshire and we have had the company of guys from the South coast too in the past.
Get out and join in with anything going to see the extend of friendship and brotherhood there is: PS we really need some sisterhood too?

Well, we agree on the word 'steelie'.

John has been incredibly kind and helpful, and I can’t express enough how nice it was for him to go out of his way to help. We were able to meet up today and I now have pedal steel legs/rods for the whole tour. It certainly is so nice how supportive the steel community can be…meeting John and sharing some laughs and talking pedal steel has been one of the most enjoyable and memorable moments of the tour.

Thanks again John, and everyone for being there to help! Looking forward to playing these shows this week in the UK, having a great time.
