Well just saw this , totally flabbergasted , my flabber has been well and truly gasted !!! I cannot believe the amazing offer By Ken.As many of you will know I hold Ken in the highest regard for both his playing and knowledge of all things steel, but this goes way beyond anything that has ever happened to me.This offer , which I could'nt and wouldn't accept is just totally amazing, and just a measure of this man's thoughtfulness and kindness and shows his love of PSG.Ken I just don't know how to reply to you except to thank you from the Bottom of my heart.
Over the past two days I have been inundated with texts, personal messages , telephone calls , ranging from wishing me luck to telling me I am a prat( well no change there), so in order to get some peace and quiet ----okay okay, will not sell my gear just yet, will hold off for a while and take a rest from steel, as I don't want to get beat up by all you bullies.

You are certainly not a prat Malcolm - far from it. You are just in a place where many of us have been sometime in our lives. You last post is great, but I will help you in any way that I can. That's what friends do isn't it? We'll leave you alone now. :D

Malcolm,

We met for the first time at the ISGF it was a pleasure indeed to meet and talk with you. During our conversation you told me how you had your Millennium guitar worked on by the people at MSA, I could tell your passion for the steel was alive and burning, the mere fact that you were in Ireland enjoying the festival speaks for itself. When I read of your decision on the Forum I found it hard to take in, surely this cannot be the Malcolm I met in Ireland. I see that you have already had lot of well meaning advice from other members of the BSS plus an outstanding and kind offer from Ken, I can only add do not do anything in haste that you may in time regret. You cannot just switch off your love of playing music, put your steel to one side a take a break from playing. You have already made it clear that the gigging side of things is not profitable but you can and indeed you will return to your music given sufficient time to dwell on things.

Kind Regards
Richard

Malcolm,
Very sad to hear you're thinking of turning it in. Most of us have had a lay off at some time or another due to all sorts of reasons, but we've all got it in the blood and come back eventually.

Glad that you've decided just to have a complete rest from it for a while. You need to have that before making such a drastic decision and let's hope you "don't jump".
Best Wishes.

Bob - "Suffice to say I sold my steel many years ago in part to buy a dishwasher!"
Bob, you don't have to sell your steel just to get married.....

Malcolm we have never met, only conversed through the BSS but I have to say I decided at one time to pack it all in,---Yea it lasted 3 months. I am not in the same class as you and as Ken said there are not enough steel players around in this country of your calibre so you really must not give up. I have done three gigs in the last 10 years not one of them even earning me my beer money. Yea go on, I drink £60 quids worth a night, HUH!! Any way Malcolm, one thing I will say if you think you will make your wife happy by giving up, think again. You will be so miserable you will make her even more miserable. Believe me like I said I've been there and that was only three months. DON'T DO IT. Best wishes whatever you decide. Dave.

I'll tell you something else as well Malcolm, the one that missed it most was my 6 year old grandson. "where's the guitar gone grandad" he loved it and missed it when it wasn't there. Now it's back he spends ages on it. Just a thought.
