I have owned various Road Angel devices for some 12 years, and the new ones are very good in prompting you when you exceed any speed limit which I try not to do. It is difficult to hold my sports car back sometimes as it does shift, but I don't want to end up with points and a fine. If you are planning on using the A303, just beware of the hand held laser speed devices that the police use on the bridges. My trusty Road Angel picks them up, but I think it's a bit sneaky to do pick on drivers on a straight dual carriageway. Only my opinion of course, but unless its an accident black spot, I think that unless someone is doing 3 figures they should leave them alone. I owned a holiday home in North Devon for about 18 years, and the A303 was a necessary evil to get to my destination.

Look after yourself my old mate. I hope you aren't going to be driving to Cornwall, as you shouldn't be overdoing things.

Whilst on the subject of transport.
I'm thinking of buying a towable caravan, anyone got any views or helpfull advice.

The only advice I can offer is not to pull your caravan down Haldon Hill in South Devon when there is a strong wind. Many caravans end up smashed in tiny pieces at the bottom of that hill. I nearly bought a Winnebago camper van a few months ago, but it was so big that it dawned on me that there would be very few minor roads in the West Country, Wales or Scotland that I could have used it on. Common sense prevailed I am pleased to say.

Thanks for the advice lads, I wasn't thinking about narrow lanes etc.or the traffic hazard implications. I was more interested in the amount of signwritting/self promotion I could get along the side- Dave Nutt Steel Guitarist (retired) that would tell folks who the old fart driving the rusty trannie is.

A303 advice? They sorted all that a year or two back. Spent a fortune closing the turning at Stonehenge, building new roundabouts and so on. The result? Traffic calming gone psycho westbound most of the time! Cues for half an hour are routine. Traffic police down here? Let me know if you see one - they're an endangered species.

As for the cameras, our understanding is that the standard "wet film" Gatso cameras have been decommissioned and there are no plans to reinstate them at this time. Some of the taller, digital ones are being returned to service. Frankly they haven't limited value in road safety anyway - no need to say anything Mr Byng. The only other point I would make is that speed limits are part of the law of this land and I happen to think laws should be obeyed as a routine.

There will be no PM continuation of last week's so-called discussion. Neither will such happen at Siston. I am thinned skinned. Yes, I take offence easily. There are many others who dislike personal abuse, who have a different slant on so-called humour, who object strongly to being taken for a fool, be it by government (hey, that should give you guys plenty more ideas to bang on about!) or individuals.

I would say however that I totally agree about the French red in moderation, though not when one is driving. Shall be towing my caravan to home of Vin du Pays D'Oc in September - for the scenery of course.

There, I'm done. I shall now close the BSS window in my PC, probably for good. If anybody wants to carry on trading insults may I suggest they lob them over Hadrian's Wall where they seem to enjoy them. Apparently I need to spend more time playing steel - fair enough - just watched a DVD of me playing with a five piece in Hastings recently - it's either more practice or start a bonfire.
