Tonight it was the Time Jumpers with Paul Franklin. Paul was using his new rig, called a Little Walter. The amp is a twin channel 50 watt valve job. He had 2 speaker cabinets each loaded with 12" speakers. The last time I heard Paul play was through a Peavey 112 amp, and his tone was very heavy on the bottom end and light on middle and top. Tonight his tone was balanced right across the tonal spectrum from bottom to top.
Chatting things through with him, he is really pleased with the tone that he is getting. He was using his chrome fronted Franklin, and quite tellingly he had Lawrence 705 pickups on his guitar instead of his usual George L PF pickups. I do like the 705's - they are very clean and smooth. Paul is very approachable and easy going, and happy to talk steel guitar.
Here is a picture of him taking a solo, and Vince Gill playing next to him. I sat 6 feet away from the two of them.
