I doubt players of ambiguous tuning are detrimental to the instrument

There are players who get the prize for "Bet you can't Guess the Tune", those who are world champions at missing an odd beat/bar hither and thither, and those who (at 80 years of age) have JUST started to learn, but are finding the hearing aid overloads with an an amp any stronger than a Micro-Cube..
You can always recognise where our conventions are, the carpark is equally divided betwixt car spaces and Zimmer frame "hitchin' posts"...
