There are some good ideas being suggested John. Unfortunately it's the same die-hards who tend to keep the site going with their postings who are providing the ideas.

I'm up for any method of equalising the contributions to the site. An annual fee on a designated day is probably the best way. If all members contributed a couple of quid each a year, then that is the target met. Whatever the method, it should be by consensus rather than one or two people making the decision. I reckon in reality that it will just be a few hardcore members who will see this through as usual.

If 10 or so members pay the fees each year, then those people who don't contribute financially will be happy to sit back and rep the benefits. It's hardly fair.

I'd prefer to contribute away from the glare of publicity, as financial circumstances probably vary widely between members, with some easily being able to make a contribution, and vice versa.

if one gets in for free, well it's a freebie is'nt it ?

it's better to guarantee a minimum cover from the git' rather than realize later on that perhaps is was a mistake not to do so
a lot of forums use the same host as this forum - my french steel guit'fo' does for free - why ? the diff is, if you don't want advertising banners to appear, one has to pay otherwise it's free & you get adverts
having used the want ads to sell stuff meslef,, i consider it totally normal to turn in a percentage/fee to the forums they sold on
i would suggest that the admin, in order to keep the boat afloat, put up a post in the want ads explaining conditions for sellers & the percentage due
cause the for sale sektion here so far, has been a freebie, w: no conditions of any kind - too kool !
i've only sold a couple of items here (nothing to write home about) thus, i shall be contributing something shortly
