It is interesting to read on the U.S forum how many players play steel at church services. I wondered if there is any players here in the UK that do? Or ever played in church?
Hi Roy This may come as a bit of a shock to you and others in the fraternity, but I have often played in the Church where I am a member and regular attendee, though I mostly play acoustic guitar. There are some absolutely beautiful hymns which suit Steel perfectly
Have done a while back. Did some tracks on a CD two years ago with a young Welsh girl, lovely voice, one track being the old standard 'What a friend we have in Jesus' she did an amazing version, singing in part English part Welsh. When her grand dad passed away she asked me to go play the song with her in her chapel, just that one song. It was so emotive, her family and the rest of the assembled were in tears. The memory will live with me forever..
Did do forty years ago Roy and strangely enough will be again next month! I was part of a 'Country Gospel Band' sort of 'Crosbie Stills & Nash' ish!! No Gaither Vocal Band back then, played many churches, halls, youth clubs, etc, throughout Scotland and a week's tour in Northern Ireland! Only time I made it onto vinyl!! Mono mind! ... A couple of us had an 'out the blue hook up' a few months back and decided to do a 'one night' reunion thing In June, it will be more' Status Auld! than Status Quo! but it should be a good little night if anybody turns up! Part of life's rich tapestry!
Here you go Willie, this pretty much tells all, something of a 'Gospel Campfire' night! Not a large venue 200 + ish and I understand today 90 tickets have gone already so I better change my strings!! It'll be a busy few days, run through on the Friday night, this on the Saturday, first flight Sunday morning to work in London Sun / Mon, back up Tuesday for our 'Gartcosh Campfire' night on the 23rd!
