My 1st gig playing steel ?

Postby telboy » Wed Apr 04, 2012 6:18 pm

Hi gang, well the time has just about come, yep got a gig on steel :) ive gigged before back in the 80s/90s but that was rockabilly slap bass...because its in gloucester[thats where the band is] i wont be able to get to any rehearsals, so im just trying to cram as much practise in as i can, got untill july....its at a festival/weekender...soooooooooo gotta get my frypan repaired, fix up my homemade 8 stringer and cross everything i can...gonna be a mix of django/early western swing/jump jive and a wee bit of good ol rockabilly! if it goes ok i'll try n put up some vids? if not, well i'll just hide away somewhere untill all is forgotten...cheers terry

thanks guys....ruby, i'll try to get a flyer and let you know the details asap, all i know at the mo is it's called the rockabilly shakedown/thur = jam night, then it starts fri morning through to sunday night late, clear the site by midday mon/ loadsa bands mainly rockabilly/ £50 the whole weekend which includes camping/trailor fees/ onsite racing oval for the hotrod chaps...
i got the gig through an old pal of mine who i used to jam with when i played double bass, he's into django, christian etc, absolute quality guitar player, so he can cover my mistakes :) spent 3 years in france picking up tips from gypsy jazz guitarists...the band hasnt got a name yet....the line up should be drums/fiddle/bass/rythm guitar/lead guitar/steel [that'll be me :)] and a female vocalist... im very excited, its like being a kid at crimbo again :) and the best bit yet[found out today] if all goes well theres a european tour being planned as i type...eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeek :)
