stuart burnett

Postby Donny Johnston » Wed Nov 30, 2011 7:29 am

Because of really bad weather I was stuck in the Harthill Services on the M8, half way between Glasgow / Edinburgh last Saturday. There was another band there and we got talking and they asked what an old man like me was doing out of the nursing home, when I told them I was a pedal steel player one of the guys asked me if I knew Stuart Burnett, he comes from Edinburgh area and probably in his 50s. I don't know him, anyone have info?

Donny, could he have meant Stuart Nesbitt, played with the Liberties, and I believe some work with the Proclaimers, also believe he is mate of Bryan Burnett of Radio Scotland , who for some reason thinks he is the top steelie in UK.

Donny, don't think he is with a regular band, he used to do some TV work after Dougie Stevenson gave it up, it was mainly guitar with a little bit of steel (Shobud Pro1) .Think he left Liberties when they morphed into the Felsons, but not sure on that.Malcolm

I remember seeing the Liberties in Edinburgh and I was impressed by their playing, including Stuart's. They had a great song called "Strong Heart" which should have been a hit, in my view. Alison Macfarlane had a great voice. I don't know what has happened to her. It would be a shame if she wasn't singing anymore.

I was taking to a friend of mine recently about the Liberties and he mentioned that Stuart Nisbett was doing recording sessions. I think he lives in Stockbridge.
