This is the shortcut to good harmonies.. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0455184362

"Dial A Note - Dial Harmony" will show you:

- The Nashville Number System in all 12 keys

- How to create harmony in all 12 keys (3rd, 5th, 6th, 7th, etc...) - and which "degrees of scale" you use to create them

- The Solfeggio names (the do, re, mi's') of all the notes in all 12 keys

- How to create your own chords with extensions in all 12 keys - (9th's, 11th's, 13th's ...etc)

- The Diatonic Scale Degrees in all 12 keys (tonic, supertonic, mediant, etc ...)

- How to read the notes in both the bass and treble clefs

- The Modes (Ionian, Dorian, Lydian, etc...) where to start - where to end and which notes to play in all 7 Mode Scales in all 12 keys

- How many sharps or flats are in each key signature

- The Consonant Chords of the Major and Minor scale (the "Natural Chord Qualities") in all 12 keys

- How to modulate and transpose from any key to any other key you choose

- The Major and Minor Degrees of Scale in all 12 keys

- The "Circle Of Fifths"

Had a look at the vids this morning, very interesting. For me also, the first two confirmed my existing knowledge, the circle if fifths is now getting into my grey area. I need to study it a little more to fully understand it. Loved the rules for finding chords, gonna have to write them down and memorise them. I'm reasonably good at recognising 1-4-5 and can usually get the 6m, the others take a bit of trial and error.

Basil,
Thanks for directing us to the "Cool Tool" I have ordered one and at eleven quid I have everything to gain.
I am wondering if this will be a good teaching tool or if it will become a crutch and make the student lazy, constantly referring to the "Tool" as opposed to retaining the "available" knowledge.
Shaun,
Like Yourself I was pretty intrigued by the chord formations but very quickly realised that I know a great many songs which do not follow the suggested progression formula.I therefore will use the gained knowledge sparingly.

Billy, just a little less than a good guitar lead, can't be bad..
It WILL eventually instil itself in your mind and you'll see it kinda hovering in front of your eyes when you think chords etc..I already have that inbuilt into my slowly degenerating head.

Basil,
I wish I could learn some of the stuff You have forgotten :)

It's quite difficult because I know I've forgotten SOMETHING but I simply can't remember what... :?:

If I think of it and it comes back to me, I'll "Pass it On"..
