I have had the pleasure of knowing Jon for many years, our paths first crossed when he was playing steel and guitar for Laura Cantrell, who did a solo UK tour without her band, my band at that time, the Radio Sweethearts backed her, and did the “Peel Sessions” with her. When she came back over she brought Jon and they performed as a duo at the Royal Concert Hall in Glasgow, although on that occasion it was guitar and mandolin I got to meet him and had a long talk about all things steel. He is one of the nicest guys you could meet and I have followed his career with interest ever since, he is an outstanding player on every instrument he picks up.

Very interesting, I especially enjoyed the push/pull discussion and the part where he describes having to change his style to adapt to a rock situation. I've got the Zephenia O'Hura CD and his playing on that is really tasteful.

And, Malcolm, were you gigging with Miss Cantrell when she supported Ralph Stanley at the Henry Wood Hall? 'The Whiskey Makes You Sweeter and 'Oh Death'....unforgettable

Danny, did not do that one, did two early tours and the Peel Sessions on BBC, think that gig was after Radio Sweethearts disbanded.

I've got a couple of Laura Cantrell's CDs and have been working out some of Jon's intros/fills from them. I've never met him in person but was introduced 'online' so to speak by a mutual Drummer friend we've both worked with and he's been kind enough to chat with me on facebook and give me some pointers (particularly helpful when it's his parts I'm trying to work out!). You're totally right - he's a great guy! I discovered him initially (like a lot of people I imagine) through his playing with Ryan Adams & The Cardinals. The 'Jacksonville City Nights' album is exemplary and Jon's playing is fantastic on it.
