The McLarens!!!

Postby bob adams » Thu Mar 01, 2018 1:43 am

You may not know much about the McLarens! So let me tell you only a few facts! They live in Milton Keynes but their roots are in Kelty Fife! I was made very welcome in MK a time back! Ron is very much the engineer and when not working on his boat has been turning his hand to producing PSG'S. He produces class work and though I have not had the opportunity lately to visit or play one of his machines I and am very sure they would be sound! JD can confirm on this! Any new players should consider one of his steels I am sure you would not be disappointed!

So why this post! Well Ron emailed me earlier today to ask after my lass, my inactivity on the forum and my lack of updating of pedalsteel .co.uk ..... (as yet I have not responded! But I will !)

Guilty on all counts Ron, juggling full time care of the elderly and the day time job (s) is a challenge so forgive me , I will get it all up to date soon promise!

We have a diamond core on our community here ...............use it or lose it!

Where to start with Ron and Margret Mc Laren!, two of the nicest people on the planet IMHO, loyal faithful guardians of the door at all my steel guitar meetings from Duloe to Gt Barford with the exception of one that Uncle Roy and Sylv. did. They are 100% reliable and will give you a welcome at nearly all times that is second to none!. I think with them on the door and your good self Bob on the Camera we recorded a little piece of steel guitar history that will live on after we have gone.
Re. Ron and steel guitar, IMHO to build a steel guitar you have to be a player to have a chance of getting it right, being a brilliant engineer on its own is not enough, I know Ron does not class himself as a player but he is the exception to the rule (although he can now knock out a recognisable toon ) his diligence to detail has produced some fine instruments that are a pleasure to play I think apart from the one Ron made for himself there are two more in the production stage, if you want a quality guitar for a more than reasonable price my advice get in quick as they will go >>>>>> The cost of these guitars does not reflect the hours that Ron spends making them, if it even covers the cost of his tooling and materials but it is the way he chooses to spend his retirement
Ron you are a priceless asset to the steel guitar community!!!!!! Yes I do mean it.

Well all I can say to that is, it must be something in the water in Kelty, because you are not so bad yourself Mr Adams, having associations with that toon in the Kingdom.

This is interesting, I think you had a McLaren one of the times I visited you JD, not sure, could have been some other make. Anyhow, I'm good with guitars at the moment having one Mullen and the Bennet I got from you, so I'm not a potential buyer right now, but these look great I think, a little different, but different good: viewtopic.php?f=18&t=7839
