Tom Morrell - monster player

I'm just listening to one of my Tom Morrell albums. Without doubt one of the best non-pedal steel players ever to have donned picks. He plays swing and jazz like no one else. His single note and chord work is as good as most pedal steel players achieve. Great Texas music by quality musicians and singers on the 'Tom Morrell and the Timewarp Tophands' series. I wish I'd had the opportunity to see him play live before he passed away.

When Maurice Anderson was young, Tom blew him away with his ability and they were both around the same age.

Ken, Its amazing, no matter how good some of the newer pickers are, we never lose that admiration for those older guys.
I had a weekend of listening to Jimmy Day, absolutely stunning, so relaxed, simple, easy playing, with a Sho Bud tone to die for, and something to learn in every move. Those boys certainly had oodles of talent.
