Sponsored event - fund raising

Postby Will C » Sat Apr 18, 2015 5:40 am

Most of you will know that in my day job I'm a solicitor. Solicitors spend their working lives trying to help other people with their problems. It's a popular myth that solicitors are rolling in it, but the truth is that most solicitors earn less than most of their clients.

This year, about now, events are in train which will lead to around 500 criminal law practices closing, because of the government's decision to reduce the legal aid budget and make practices compete for what's left. Who is there to help solicitors if disaster strikes: cancer, divorce, financial crisis? This can affect young and old, and their families.

Only the Solicitors' Benevolent Association exists to help solicitors and their families in time of need. As area rep I have nine current cases on my books, all of them over 50 and struggling with extreme ill-health in one form or another.

TODAY I am doing a sponsored abseil for SBA off the Orbit - that thing in the Olympic Park in London dubbed the "helter-skelter". It's 270 feet sheer, and for most of it there's nothing even for the feet to touch, it's straight down, SAS-style.

Will you sponsor me for a few quid? Even the price of a pint will help. You never know when you might need one of us. Please visit my Just Giving page and have a look:

Ok chaps, here's the incriminating evidence!

It's in HD, took forever to upload. The sound is pretty crappy, but the wind whipped everything away, it was blowing a hoolie up there.
