Amazing yes, don't think it's a 10 string, maybe an 8, but still great playing.

That is Carco's guitar. He usually carries it around the Dallas Show in a carry bag on his back or just in his hands. I was at the back of the room when Doug played his set on the S10 Fender of Carco Clave. Doug was raised playing C6 on non pedal as a boy, like most of the greats did. He still has the improvisational skills on the basic tuning of those days.
Donny - the guitar is a 10 stringer.
I have a S10 that Barry Gaskell built that is tuned to a standard C6 - a la DJ. Wish I had a fraction of his knowledge.

This is a very interesting clip. Doug is one of those like so many musicians who dive off at an angle and not play it the same every time depending on mood etc I have seen another clip on YouTube where he plays pedal steel and where I first heard him do "My Home In Sanantone". I studied this looking at some of the licks he used and attempted them on lap steel, and now we have his lap steel version.
A great comparison between his lap steel and pedal steel playing so will be taking notes.

Spoke to Doug - this approach comes from know some theory. He said he learnt a lot from doing a Berkley online guitar course then I guess adapted all the exercises for Pedal steel.
He also said he loves to use the Phrygian scale a lot. But playing as fast as he does he could use any scale then stop on the note he needs. - that is my goal. True talent.
