News of steel players

Just watched Mike Denver on Alba at 9 o'clock. Was that Richard Nelson in the band playing steel?
Whoever it was, was playing an Emmons, but I thought Richard normally played a Bethel steel.
Anyone know if it was him?

I saw it too Tony, but i didn't think it sounded like Richard. I thought the band sounded very good and so too did Mike Denver. They certainly knock some great country singers out over there in Ireland. He sounds so American.

Tony, Ken, I dident see the show that you are talking about, but Mike Denver has his own steel player.
His name is AL Mc Quilken. He plays an Emmons LeGrande. It was a D10, but a couple of years ago
he asked me to remove theC6th neck and leave it a 4 x 5. He has been with Denver a long time now.
Tony ,Richard has a bunch of guitars ... 2 Bethals, Emmons LG, Emmons P/P (Lacquer) All D10s.
WBS SD10 set-up C6th and his priced Franklin Peda-Bro. Richard would be the only real serious
C6th player in Ireland, and is probably the busiest recording steeler in the land. He is a Class Act.

Richard is a class act indeed. I remember going to see him play as a teenager in a band called Southbound Train that played a Friday night residency at The Bridge in a small village called Dunloy in Northern Ireland. It was rare to see a steel player in that neck of the woods, at least one playing country rock rather than Big Tom and the Mainliners and Philomena Begley. I was enthralled by his playing back then and still am today.

Thanks Ted, mystery solved. Didn't think it sounded like Richard's style.
Fiddle player is a great musician. Good band overall.
