Elton John and the Electric proms.

Sun Oct 31, 2010 2:01 pm

I was aware that Elton John's Electric proms concert was being screened last evening but it took a text for me to turn on the goggle box to catch the programme . The text informed me that there was a steel player on this concert and sure enough it was Russ Pahl from the United States. He played some tasty steel with a very nice tone. Who else caught this concert and your comments. After watching the show I googled Russ to find out he was the son of the late great Les Paul.

Roy - Russ is one of the busiest steel players in Tennessee.

I saw Robert Plant and the Band of Joy the night after Elton - my sister was singing in the choir.

He was playing with a steel player called Darrell Scott who played some great stuff (on loads of instruments but obviously it was the PSG I was listening to!).

Not being a fan of Elton John, I almost missed this. Only tuned in because Leon Russell was involved. I was pleasantly surprised, big band, loads of brass and particularly with seeing great steel playing spotlighted (literally). The steel featured on two songs featured on the 'red button' coverage was even better than in the main TV coverage. I did not know who the steeler was at the time. So that's Russ Pahl.. well cool steeler.
