SECOND STEEL! I WAS WRONG

A while back, there was discussion on the forum re; owning two or more steel's, i said 'you only need one, the best you can afford' well i got caught out last night, my LRK lever snapped off, mid gig, thereafter it was a struggle, i now have to source a new part, as well as fit it, i have my biggest gig in a good while coming up next friday, no E to Eb knee lever, and yes, NO BACK UP STEEL! i am away from my steel at the moment, but just wondering if i can swap parts from my RRK LEVER? just to get me out of a pickle, when i originally said 'you only need one steel' i was reffering to the fact that if you keep your steel lubricated and check nuts and bolts and screws tight, you wont have a problem, but no checks could have seen this coming, you only need one steel I WAS WRONG!!!!!!!!!

Eddie, it ought to be easy enough swapping parts from another knee lever. RKL is probably the least used lever for most people with an Emmons set up. The biggest problem is finding a set of American size Allen keys. By the way, do you know the great Basil used a vice grips as one of his knee levers? I think he still does. Actually this might a very nice temporary solution for you.

Paul, i'm not that mechanically minded, but when i turned my steel upside down tonight, i was very methodical, mine is the DAY set up, and i simply removed the snapped LRK fitting, and replaced it with the RRK lever [Eb/D], which i can easily do without for the time being, so immediate problem solved, i had to adjust the 'stopper' for tuning purposes, but feel very pleased with myself, and yes i recall the picture of basil's mole grips, very inventive

Glad to hear you're back in action Eddie. I didn't think you'd have much trouble performing that minor surgery. If you have difficulty locating a replacement knee lever you could ask Bob Adams to make you one. You'll see him at the Steel Festival.

I don't think you can have enough instruments or amps. We all get caught out from time to time when something goes wrong, and it does pay to have spares of everything. The dreaded Sho-Bud lever brackets have been the bane of many people's lives.

YUP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!but i am lucky i have spare parts for a bud. nearlly every thing, but no pedals,i`m still looking.
