Interview with Mike Johnson

Sun Jul 25, 2010 10:45 am

This is a great piece featuring one of the better players around in the USA, Mike Johnson. Mike has done some incredible things with Brad Paisley in the past, and his solo album is one of the best steel albums ever.

Although unashamedly set up as a commercial plug for ShowPro guitars, there are some great close up shots of his playing and his own ShoPro.

During our visit to Dallas in March of this Year I had the great pleasure of meeting and seeing Mike play.
he is amongst the top players in the world.
We chatted for some time and He and His lovely Wife were totally charming,no ego at all.
Jeff Suratt has had a booth at Dallas for a few years and He builds a great guitar,He is also an extremely nice guy.
He has a CD called the Show pro's and several well known players are featured, great CD.

Nice one Ken, He achieves a great sound no matter what he plays, that's a cutting tone from the Show-Pro but my goodness the Emmons Farewell Party break sounds beautiful too.

Mike really is a great player, he plays some incredible progressions. The first time I really notice this was on a Billy Yates CD. He played what appeared to be a simple Together Again type lick, when I sat down to learn it, I was completely blown away by what he had done. It really wasn't so simple, in fact, in places it baffled me. It wasn't fast, it was very smooth, but I just couldn't figure out where he played certain runs. He is without doubt a highly gifted player.
