How far will You travel for a gig

Not so long ago I posted that I could not see much future for Me. I do have a few local gigs which are within an hour of home. Recently I was asked as part of a five piece band to do a gig which is 200 miles each way, We usually make our own way to,and from a gig and that really suits Me fine.
I thought long and hard about the gig and preferred to decline, taking all into consideration I thought that eight hours travel and four hours playing was not so appealing, The band want two rehearsals before going and the cost of the rehearsals plus fuel cost and a few quid for eats,I would bring home about £30. I do have the option of staying overnight at a b&b and coming home with a fiver !! The venue could not afford any more and said they usually book duos. Such is life !!

Billy before the pandemic I used to drive to Coventry every month for a gig where they past the hat around to pay the band always had enough to cover the diesel and something to eat but,,, the reason I did it for about 8 years was I had the opportunity to play with musicians that were far better than me..... i guess it goes beyond money for me.

John,like Yourself I am not motivated by money,I have done loads of gigs without even asking what the fee was,however I thought that an 8 hour round trip was a bit brutal considering I am now over 40

I like to be in close knit local bands. That way I can rehearse and get it right at local gigs. Then when the bigger long range gigs come in we jump in a van together and stick together.

If I was a pro muso I'd definitely be more open to long range stuff if it paid well but as a semi pro with a day job I can't justify it.
