Carter 'Super' Starter!

Postby bob adams » Thu Jul 09, 2015 9:26 pm

Dispelling the myth that you cannot upgrade a Carter Starter.

This one now has all the functions of a standard Pro 3 x 4 setup.
Emmons setup.

(For those new to the instrument the pedals and levers are as follows:)
P1.. Raises Strings 5 & 10
P2.. Raises Strings 3 & 6
P3.. Raises Strings 4 & 5
LKL ..Raises Strings 4 & 8
LKR.. Lowers Strings 4 & 8
RKL ..Raises Strings 1(a full tone) & 2(½ tone) and Lowers 6 full tone (½ using P2)
RKR.. Lowers String 2 a ½ tone until string 9 engages then full tone. (9 lowers ½ tone)

The guitar now has an alloy pedal rack, new pedals and quick release brackets. A new alloy pedal stop bar with grub screw adjustment, two additional bellcranks and lever stops.

In a lightweight alloy case with pull out drawer neatly carrying the lot and weighing in-total a mere 17k (37lbs)

This is now a great little guitar to get started on and ticks all the boxes for the price! £650

At this price I doubt I have covered my costs of upgrade but I am happy for someone to be able to get started on PSG at an affordable price.

Mr Nutt, have you ever said anything out of turn, surely not and certainly not on my watch or on this thread! I am honoured and humbled to have you chaps as dear friends and peers in all things PSG. It was such a joy to work on this little guitar as it oozes the words 'keep it simple' With a 'little' skill and much TLC it is now a 'Wee Beauty' The welded bellcranks were different but I got there! My 'Old Boy' who some (WG / DJ/ M McM) know is approaching 94yrs, and said, why don't you keep it if it does everything you need and it's so light! With my hand on my more than ample hernia at the time I thought you know what Mr You could be right! .... Taking this off thread for a mo and I shouldn't ... I do look forward to a day when I can spend more time with you guys, you have such a wealth of knowledge and history between you (Dave, John, Willie, Malc, Donny, Davie, Eddie, Frank, Ken, Dave H. Mark, Roy, Baz!) quite apart from an endless list in Ireland (Ted, Richard, Aidan, Paul, Percy, and and) an hour with any one of you is a golden handshake! Mr Nutt I trust you are well, it would be lovely for the four of us to get together in the not too distant future! regards and L2U & P!

Hi Bob, no problem, just a very strange post above in relation to what is an obvious compliment.
Hope all is well in your life, yes we must get together soon.
Look after the old boy.
All the very best to Ollie and yourself.
Dave.

Fantastic job Bob. If you and your pal lived in the USA, you could virtually be working for the rest of your lives converting CS guitars. Mind you, I expect that you were glad to get the job done. Carter Starters sound really good, so are well worth the effort, especially when you consider how lightweight they are.

Ditto on Willie and Dave's comments. You are a top player and a good person to be around.

Mr Nutt, What I wrote about Bob is how I feel about the guy, I certainly meant no malice to your good self.
