Volume Pedal

Postby arteden48 » Thu Sep 04, 2014 10:05 am

Any working vol pedal wanted.
I have an old ShoBud pedal that I was kindly given but it goes thru pots in a hurry and of course, is operated, in the end, by a piece of string !!
so need a (cheapish) upgrade

John, are you fitting the pots correctly?? there are a lot of good volume pedals out there that work very well with the string..... When you fit pot in the "flat out" position the pot does not want to be right up against its own stop but eased back very slightly ..... if you cannot fit it right yourself send it to Dunny and he would do for a reasonable cost....

:) yeah am fitting them properly. I have nothing against string per se, just want to try something else really (and have a back up) 8-)

OK, in that case you are looking at a Hilton or a Telonics as the market leaders, my preference is the Telonics, not cheap but you really get what you pay for and they stand behind their products 100%.... but even the very best have their drawbacks make sure you get a spare power supply as its only a matter of time before you trap that wire under your seat legs and it gets you reaching for the pot pedal again....... :guitar:

John you say your going through pots like, well in a hurry, I suppose the obvious question is what brand of pots are you using??

have tried various including the 500 which i sent off to the US for, but that developed' or had, a peak in it towards the loud end so i replaced it with something my amp repairer recommended but thats got scratchy already and isnt responding to pot cleaner,
as i said earlier in this thread i am just looking for another pedal to try and to have as backup so i can send the shobud off to someone who knows more than i do :)
most people do !!!

Fit a Dunlop hot pot in your pedal.I tried all makes , Pec, claristat , Allen Bradley, all complete crap, lasting from two weeks to a couple of months.Fitted a Dunlop into my Goodrich and have been using it off and on for a couple of years, normally use the Hilton, but my mate borrowed Goodrich and has been using it for a few months.Fiddly to fit, but works, see posts on American forum.I doubt if the pot fitted by your tech will be suitable for steel unless he has previous knowledge of steel volume pedals.
