Hi, I'm a guitar player considering buying my first pedal steel and would appreciate some advice on what I should be looking for. I'm in Northern Ireland where there's 2 steels up for sale in the sub-£2k range at the moment, which I may be able to stretch to soon. One is the ZB for sale on this forum and the other is a Mullen on gumtree:
https://www.gumtree.com/p/guitar-instru ... 1331378094Are either of these likely to suit a beginner? Are they equally reliable etc?
Any help would be great.
Thanks,
Aidan

You are comparing apples with coconuts the zb is old track compared to the Mullen, the Mullen is a great deal with or without the extras, if you don't want to spend that much my Carter can be bought for 1600 plus shipping, but the Mullen is the best bet and you will get your money back when you sell

Thanks for the reply John, shows how much I know! Well it won't hurt quite as much spending that sort of money if it's likely I can make it back on the Mullen. Does it have a more modern mechanism/undercarriage compared to the zb? I'm unsure what makes it old track. Cheers

Aiden there is nothing much wrong with the ZB it is a product of its time now looked upon as a bit of a Dinosaur heavy as lead needs two men and a boy to carry it you will get a nice tone but compared to the Mullen the pedal and lever stops may feel a bit woolly but the Mullen stops will be positive and accurate. That's not to say a ZB can't be made to play as nice as any if you know what your doing ...Richard Burton proved that AKA "The Spring Man"
