Goodrich L120 or 120

Postby joeyh111 » Mon Jun 05, 2023 1:34 pm

Hey there,

I recently picked up my first pedal steel (thank you Dave/Shakey for being so helpful!), and am looking to get a Goodrich pedal for it.

I am a beginner and have plenty on my hands (and feet and knees) to learn, so am not in a particular rush to pick one up. That being said, it would be nice to learn with the set up complete.

((One was up for sale on eBay recently for 85, but after asking the guy to demo it, he liked the sound so much he decided to keep it!!))

Cheers,
Joey

Hi John,

That sounds good, although have never done a pot change before, so would probably take it to someone to get it done.

Is a Dunlop Pot the poplar replacement choice? If so, any idea where I could find the right one for a Goodrich? A quick google of 470k seems to bring up a lot of Wah...

If I can source the right pot and find someone to do the fiddling about for me, I will take it! I will most likely get back to you in the next few days to confirm, once I have spoken to a few people.

Thanks for the help,
Joey

Joey, I replaced the pot in my Goodrich 120 pedal a couple of years ago. It's a bit of a pain but not a difficult job. There's some great advice on this page by Greg Cutshaw: https://www.gregcutshaw.com/Goodrich%20120%20Pot/Goodrich%20120%20Pot.html

The Dunlop Wah pots are the right ones, from what I recall. You want a 470K audio taper 'high life' version as it'll have a lot of action compared to a volume knob on a guitar :) But the intended purpose doesn't matter as long as it's the right value and taper - and the little plastic gear wheel comes off so you can fit the brass bush from the Goodrich pedal straight on.

Good luck!

Hi Simon,

Thanks for your comments and links, they have been greatly reassuring. I have found a 470k pot in the UK so that is fab, looks like I will be having a crack at this!

John - If the offer still stands, I will take you up on the 120 please! Can sort details out through PM if you would like.

All the best,
Joey
