Sho-Bud The Pro 1 3x4

Postby bradsteel » Sun Dec 20, 2020 6:08 pm

Hi guys,

Awaiting delivery of my new guitar so I’m putting my Bud up for sale. It’s an early 80s model, black lacquer finish with an e-66 pickup.

Cosmetically reasonable for a 40 year old guitar; few bar dings etc. 4 levers and 3 pedals - the two extra levers were added later (originally Pro 1’s were 3x2). During its time with me, I’ve really looked after it.

Standard Emmons cope with Es on the left knee, and the modern changes on the right (full tone raise of string 1 on RKL etc, and half stop on RKR etc).

I’ve only had this guitar about 9 months having bought it from Gerry Hogan earlier in the year. I’ve had a lot of fun with it and have done several pro sessions with it.

Will get some pics on tomorrow hopefully.

I think £1,100 would be fair (and less than I paid).

If your finances allow, and if you've got the storage space, I would advise you to get the new steel, but keep this one as well.

I'm speaking from experience of trading various things in my younger years (motorbikes, guitars, pedal steels etc), and regretting it ever after.

I agree.

As I've said to you before Brad, it's a great guitar and I wouldn't be letting it go too quickly if it was me. I'd keep it unless you're skint.

Also, make sure you've actually played your new guitar before jumping ship too. You will most likely love the new one as we've also discussed but there's a possibility you might not and if the Sho-Bud has already sold you will regret it.

I'm getting a new D10 in the near future (I think) but I will categorically NOT be selling the Sunburst Show-Pro, even though selling it would basically pay most of the new guitar.

In it's short time with me I've got a lot of memories with it and recently I've found it's tonal sweet-spot.

Your Sho-Bud has kick started your session career and looking back that will be something to remember in the years to come. With the amount of work you do, it's always useful to have a spare guitar too.
Kind Regards, Steven Hicken Jr.

Richard, Steven, you are both absolutely right and I really appreciate the thought. Indeed, it wouldn’t be the first time I’ve sold something to later regret it. I’d love to keep it, even if it were just as a spare like you said Steven.

Although, I’m getting married next year (Covid-permitting of course), and I don’t dare imagine the look on the missus’ face should I keep the Bud, when it’s money sitting around doing nothing. Moreover, the year after, I’ll be sitting her down to introduce her to my D10 ideas

I’ll be sad to see it go because it’s really served me well, but also, I hope that the price is attractive enough to encourage a new player to join the ranks! :)

I would agree with the other two Brad have seen a lot of sellers remorse and I am well aware of it now as as Richard says it does not just apply to steel..... Thats why the 650 6t tangerine dream now sleeps in the spare bedroom until the sun comes out in May..

John, the Triumph is a very nice item to own! It is well deserving of its own room.

I did think long and hard about the fate of the Sho-Bud; I’ve had terrible sellers’ remorse before. Although, I’m over the moon with the new guitar and I just can’t justify having the two :(

Best not upset the missus, there's a reason I've chosen to be single for now...despite some really drunk Instagram selfies you received from me a few months ago   .

On reflection guys, I’m going to have a little think about whether to let it go. I’m feeling a bit sentimental - it’s that time of year lol. Please close for now admin!
