"White" S10 3+4 in Fender colors with a Fender volume pedal pics to follow. its in the workshop at the moment but when it is playable... will make a nice starter guitar for someone, it did not come with a case but I have a large alloy case here that would house it but it would need to be fitted into it. Set up is Emmons....

My first guitar was a "white" nice guitar, needed a bit of work but would suit a learner down to a tee.

Hi there,

I'm new to the forum. I'm an electric guitarist looking to branch out into learning pedal steel having always loved the sound of it. My only issue is that I'm 6ft5, so not sure whether my long legs would be an issue with this or any other pedal steel. I've read of lift kits to extend the height of the legs and pedals but not sure where to get them from in the UK or how to find out whether they would work on any particular model of pedal steel.

In particular, do you know how hard it would be for me to extend the height of this pedal steel you've got for sale if I were to buy it?

Any help gratefully appreciated!

Hi John, thanks for the reply!

I live in York so getting to Cambridge might not be achievable until at least after Christmas.
Another question I have - what is the difference between something like this, which you say is suitable for a starter, and a more expensive pedal steel? If I were to buy this, in a couple of years time (fingers crossed) when I'm becoming proficient in it, what is it about this instrument that would frustrate me to the point of wanting to get a more expensive non-starter guitar?

Also, does this guitar hold it's tuning well? Would I have problems taking this on stage, for example, and having to interrupt the flow of the set for an extended tuning session, or would it's tuning hold adequately for at least a couple of songs?

Thanks in advance,

Nathan

Don't worry about tuning stability, Nathan, in myexperience pretty much any steel will hold its tune during a set, especially if you arrive early enough to let it warm up... I hardly have to touch mine from one week to the next.

Nathan, if its still here after Christmas come and have a look that is my best advice you need to see what you get and be satisfied with it before you part with your cash, Everything on the guitar is adjustable, if anything it is slightly over engineered and that makes it a little heavier than a new modern steel also, it has lost its original case and the one I have put it in is a little bigger than was needed but on the plus side it plays well and IMHO much better than any student guitar.
