Many Thanks to Nick Bidmade for getting us all going.
Good luck with your move 'oop North Nick. Do keep in touch with us Southerners.
I'm sure we've all improved with these regular meets, long may they continue.
As always, all are welcome from absolute beginners to Seasoned pro's.

Have fun Guys,

Hi Shaun,

Newbie here,
I've been playing lap for a while but yet to own a pedal steel.
Would love to come along on the 28th and meet you guys!
Just wondering about the location for the meeting?
Best,
Joe.

Joe it will be great to have you along! Please PM me your email address as I'm going to send out a message to the group in the next few days.

We are going to be joined by a singer-songwriter for this one which is a bit different and quite exciting but we'll do a few of the usual round robin style tunes to warm up. There is a small fee for the room and I'm asking everyone to put a fiver in the hat for Alex our singer. If anybody else would like to join us please sign up to the forum and PM me your email. Don't be intimidated if you are a beginner, you have total carte blanche to make mistakes in front of other steel players and get encouragement and feedback. The only stipulation is please don't play while others are having their turn. Bring headphones if you need to noodle. More details in the email.

All the best,
Jonathan

Thanks for letting us know Matt. I've sent out an email with a couple of nominations for dates in November. Attendees please check your email (and junk) folders today! Joe, still haven't heard from you - hope you can make it.

We have room for more! If anyone is considering dipping a toe in the water please get in touch, I can't tell you how valuable these meetings are for improving your confidence on your instrument and learning things from other players. This month we've got a live singer-guitarist to back up so don't miss that opportunity.

We had another great meeting on Sunday and I'd really like to thank everyone who took part. We missed Nick's participation of course, also Shaun was determined to make it (and did) even though he really wasn't well and unfortunately he couldn't stay. That's the kind of dedication we have! Thanks Shaun, glad you got home OK, hope you're feeling better today.

It was terrific to have newcomer Joe join the group with great enthusiasm, lovely playing and wonderful warm tone on his frying pan lap steel. Love those finger pulls Joe! Dave had a melodic rendition of Help Me Make It Thorough the Night in the bag, dedicated practice clearly paying off. Special mention goes to Barry for diving in with songs he didn't know and coming up with some beautiful backing for our singer.

Alex expertly lead us through some Little Feat, Neil Young, Stones and several fantastic original songs as well as Help Me Make It Thorough the Night & Together Again. It was a joy to leave the backing tracks behind for a while and really flex our musical muscles on the fly. I must say it brought out some great things in everyone's playing, there were some very lovely moments as each of us tried to play with sensitivity to the song. Alex loved doing the session and is definitely up for more in the future. We also jammed to a fine rendition of Willin' performed by Dave's friend Nigel which was another highlight. 5 hours of steel guitar fun in great company, you can't ask for more than that. Only wish I'd taken some photo's.

We missed regular Bar Tenders Matt, Tom, Henry, Andrew and David but hopefully some of you can make it next time. Dec 7th is on the cards, I'll send round an email to see if we can tie that date down.

All the best,
Jon
