Unfortunately not. I had to work late that night and missed it. I'm a bit gutted. Saw him once before and he was fantastic and a real gent when I harassed him afterwards.

He does seem to play up here at least once a year though so hopefully I will get another chance. Think he has friends in the area - In fact I believe Tony knows him. Not sure Tone's on this site yet though?

I am now! Yes I got to see Al last Thursday. It was a brilliant night. Some local talent was there in support - actually part of a band I used to be in, The Katy Freeway; plus Danny Holmes of Diesil Therapy (he also has played in the Freeway).
Al played a blinder, busking with the band as well as doing his own set. Loads of tele-bending, dobro and that unique style on his Fender 6-plank. "Crossroads" got manic with Al lifting the 3-leg Fender off the floor :o and tipping it up to roll the bar freestyle for the final gliss! Quite a show, "finished" at 11.00 then 20 minutes of encores on dobro - and he was up early next day to be in the studio adding some stuff to the Diesil Therapy CD.
I was quite touched when Al called me out to stand up to be ackowedged, by the rest of the audience, as the guy who made the B-bender in his telecaster. Applause 8-) for just standing up! Al's a great guy and always puts friendship and loyalty ahead of fame and fortune. Try to catch him on his next trip over.
All best, Tony :D
