Thanks everyone for being so welcoming to a first timer. Enjoyable night, the most terrifying experience in many years, yet strangely addictive..... I regretted not trying another tune. Need to face the fear!
Ambition now is to learn to play as many notes as the man who plays too many notes, as many chords as the man who plays too many chords, then dedicate myself to finding little holes in tunes and playing as few notes as possible!
Sorry we forgot the pancakes....

It's going to be a good year if we can keep this up. A tremendous range of tunes and great picking all round. I really enjoyed the variety of, " Bringing A Tune That You Haven't Aired At Gartcosh Before", how about keeping this feature as a part of the night?

And Calum, I thought your choice of tune and execution were first class, bodes well And, I know what you mean when you say 'terrifying experience', I'm a few years in and my bottle still rattles I can have a song sounding just the way I want in the comforting surroundings of my bedroom only to have it deconstruct itself at the meets, but when you do nail a few, even up to almost all the notes in a tune, it is strangely edifying. First night for a while and I thoroughly enjoyed it, it was good seeing y'all again and meeting some new players. It was great meeting up with Calum again, last time we met was at a mutual friends wedding in London, well over 10 years ago.

Calum doesn't know this but the first time I heard him playing guitar was one hot sunny summer day and I was walking up a street in Glenrothes and heard a young man playing guitar in his bedroom with the window open, I stopped and listened for a while and thought, that guy is going to be a fine player one day. I wasn't wrong

After everytime I go to a meet, I just want to get behind the steel and play, today is no exception, so I'm off to make a noise. Looking forward to next month already

You're very kind Danny. I believe we're both cursed with having had to listen to other musicians in a studio for a number of years. Must swop stories sometime but perhaps off forum. Wouldn't want anyone to find out that when a studio engineer says 'that was a great take', they are not always strictly honest......

When I took up 5 string banjo having moved to a remote part of the world, the number of people listening outside my bedroom window dropped sharply. I reckon they considered the possibility of having to squeal like a pig and decided it wasn't worth it. Haven't done an external bedroom listener survey since I took up steel but the hills do have eyes so I'm sure I'll hear how it's going......

A new tune every month is a great idea. But I've only been once so what do I know.......

It was great to see the turn out last night, shame Dougie wasn't with us and it would have been nice to see several others, Alistair, Billy, Tim, young Stewart, & 'the rest' Some night we might just have a full house!

My visit was short but better than last month........... at least I had me geetar, the babysitter for the 'old chap' seemed to work ok, so onwards and upwards!!

Right from the off (of me getting there anyway) Mr Mitchell was 'playing a fast one' You have to watch him he's just getting too good! ... Loved it Danny!!! .... and that Gamble had his knocker
firmly on Shannon's Door, unaccompanied of course! ...Noyce!!

Calum, great you made it, enjoyed your playing; I know from our chats that it is in your veins already but I do hope you got plenty out of the evening and you are encouraged to make the journey whenever you can, did you get home on the same day as you left??

Geoff, great to have you back, nice work from you also, I did enjoy my 'tinker' on the Uni! Much potential! {full tone lower on the 12th}... find a way on a lever!

I can't go right round the room or I'll bore everyone to death here but just a couple of other observations. Great sound from the new rig Mr Holland very crisp, just sorry I couldn't wait to hear your tune!!
As for you Mr Johnston good to see you back to rights and I really enjoyed 'A Place to Fall Apart ' I was pulling my troosers real tight to try and harmonised like Janie Fricke! I'm still getting over it! ..........
That is one sweet tune!

As for me I have to expand on this babysitting lark now to give me time at the SSGW.

As Daryle Singletry says of hiring the house band...........I would take em on the road but I can't afford 'em ............. Maybe I could take out a loan or somethin!
