Out of curiosity, Ken. Are your steels set up vastly different in the copedent area (please excuse my ignorance )? And is it Emmons or Day, that you favour?

I hate to burst the bubble, but I thought I should remind you McSteelies that Ken is stopping by the North East Steelies' next meeting on the Sunday before your get together. By the time we've finished, he'll be an exhausted wreck. We are doing 5 tunes and he's going to replace the pot in my Goodrich vp - so please be gentle with him when he arrives at Gartcosh.
BTW the North East Steelies salute Donny - a fine gentleman and a top class player. Please return Ken in a usable condition.

I am a Day player Danny. My guitars are set up in basic 3 + 5 Day, some guitars have the Franklin pedal on pedal 4, but I can easily get half note changes on my Show Pro's levers. E.g. I lower my 6th string from G# to F# on RKL, but I can get a G on the way down if I need to. Likewise, raising my 1st string from F# to G# on the same lever, I can get a G note just by feel in the lever. I can't do that in any of my other guitars including the Infinity. :o

Nick - 5 toons plus your volume pedal is do-able. I can give you guys a tour over my rig, which includes the very fine Telonics TCA500 combo amp. ;)

With the exception if the 1st string raise, everything raising on the Day setup goes right Danny, everything lowering goes left, it is the most natural..... I guess it is just what you were brought up with, in saying that I played Day for years when gigging but changed over as there seemed to more info out there 'Emmons related' ............ now I struggle to go bacK .......... I couldn't get my Heimlich on Day Danny! (he knows what I mean!) I would fire myself right into the ladies toilet at Gartcosh! .... and though I may be light on my levers, I sure ain't on my loafers! Ken let's have a demo on those modern pulls you speak of! That will be interesting for all!

Er ahem, On Tuesday next at Gartcosh, I will be giving an in depth tutorial in the playing of Bum Notes, thereafter I will open the floor to questions.

Looking forward to it already and to hearing Ken play the theme tune to the Royal Family.

Thanks for the illuminating info, Ken and Bob. There's so much to these instruments, amazing.
Next week's shaping up to be a classic, what with Ken's setup and Willie's tutorial. :guitar:
Although being an 8th dan black belt in the art of the bum note, I don't think there's much Willie could show me

And Nick o' North East, I hope your meet is a blast :guitar: 5 tunes, no less

I think we should doff our collective caps to Ken, for going all those extra miles in the service of the Steel :D Huzzah :guitar: :guitar: :guitar:

Well Willie, I will probably be executing runs and licks from the Les Dawson songbook, so it might be interesting to see who accumulates the most bum notes next week.

Danny - the 'extra miles' are worth it when you get a bunch of like minded folks who love steel guitar banding together and playing and talking. I loved the Scottish meet last September, and it was worth every minute of the drive there and back to meet the members of the Gartcosh All-Stars. We don't have a local meeting of steel players in Hampshire and Dorset any more unfortunately, so that's why tying up the two meets from Thornton Watlass and Gartcosh was very appealing to me.
