Perhaps I should come up in Jan and bring my 8-string lap steel, built from scratch with recycled timber and some doodling with alloy bar in my mill. Might spark some ideas.

Will - it would be great to see you! I will be updating news etc in early January and I'll also be keeping travellers updated with latest local weather reports. Keep an eye out here and also by email...
Can you let me have your email address so I can add you to the circulation list. (You can send it by PM if you'd prefer...)

You could also share petrol costs with JD if he's interested!

Best wishes to you

Nick

No worries Nick, you can reach me here: [email protected]

It's playable, but I want to put a sunburst on it and pearloid edging, so many little jobs to do to finish it and too bl**dy cold out in the workshop!

But I'm pleased with the keyhead:

The sunburst ones always sound the best! It would be great to see you! I remember 'Steel crazy after all these years' from a Great Barford bash. I was very new to pedal steel then and had just had some surgery so I was 'flying solo'. Hope to renew acquaintance.

Hi guys, despite repeated requests, still no video evidence that any such meeting ever took place.
We up here in the frozen north would certainly enjoy listening to some tunes from our Brethren of the Bar down south
Give it some thought Tony / Nick

Willie, where have you been? JD has posted any number of videos of the Gt Barford get-togethers over the years. I was present at most of them, too green at the time to string more than a few notes together, but there you go. Nick, it would be good to see you again.

Hi Will, I know what you mean, but it would be good to hear some newer, more current playing, if it would be at all possible, I know the lads up here would enjoy that ( I certainly would ) and we could then put some faces to the well known names.
There are no wrong notes, only jazz notes.

I would post video if I could but I have neither the technology or the understanding... and I am personally sympathetic to viewers' sensibilities as far as my own playing is concerned.

I know in this day and age it should be straightforward, but it's all a mystery to me.

Founding member of the North East Steelers, Keith. is the IT guru... I'd love the Gartcosh guys to hear the storm we can cook up on a Sunday afternoon!!! 'Screamin' Rod King, rocksteady Rosemary, the sweet-sounding steel of Derek Evans, the musicality of Tony R-D, and Keith's swinging lap steel... Hopefully Keith can chip in here. We're doing our own solo slots at our January meeting. so this should be as good as it gets! Camera. lights. action!!

Maybe, one day, a 'Steel-off' between various local groups - but I hear you guys are pretty good and have much depth in your team... is there nothing else to do up there between October and March ?

Yours, aye...

Careful Nick. They are very fine players up there in the coldest part of the UK. A 'steel-off' between different regions could well result in a win for the Scots. Many of them must have had a mis-spent youth to get as good as they have. Loads and loads of woodshedding!!
