Re: SSGW 28th FEB

Thu Feb 16, 2017 4:28 pm

Hi
As Jif says, I'm hoping to make this one too provided it doesn't clash with collecting my wife from some airport or other after an emergency funeral in Tasmania.
As this is my first visit to the fount of all knowledge, I have a couple of questions.

1 What happens?

2 What do I need to bring?

3 Will there be pancakes?

Very grateful for any pointers......

Cheers

Donny. Glad to hear that you're relaxing, and I hope they starlings aren't murmurising too loudly and disturbing your rest  Looking forward to seeing at your rightful place, at the head of the table :guitar:

Callum. To answer your questions;

1 What happens?
Well, there isn't a strict format for the meets. Bodies start arriving about 7pm and we set up in a circle, like in Wagon Train. Normally there's a couple of tunes we have prepared and we play them in a round robin style. This month, as you may have read, we've to prepare a tune or tunes that we haven't played at the meets. Depending on numbers there can be a sort of one on one, where the experienced gurus show the greenhorns a thing or two. Sometimes there's a campfire session, where we ditch the backing tracks and have a jam. Magic :guitar:
Also, if you have any problems or queries, the good gentlemen of Gartcosh will, without doubt, be able to help you out.

2 What do I need to bring?
Your instrument /instruments, your amp and a power extension's handy to have. A set of headphones with a mini jack comes in handy for the one to one's. Oh, and a 5 pound note, for the hall hire.

3 Will there be pancakes?
No, like the wee beggar, the one that doesn't have a flute or a drum, who appeared at your door, no' last night but the night before, you must bring your own pancake, if you feel the need.

Hope you can make it, the more the merrier, you'll enjoy it, I'm sure :guitar:

Ha, ha! We swing both ways up here, Will
:D
The 'tatty scone', is almost exclusively enjoyed in the AM, along with 'puddin' (black), puddin' (white), square slice and eggs (as you like them). Whilst the 'scotch pancake ' can be savoured at any point of the day, with nice wee cup of tea. :D

Here are a couple of clips of my mum, and my favourite auntie, explaining the finer points. Enjoy

Thanks D & D, appreciate it, have been missing my nights at Gartcosh. Been a few times I've had the gear packed up ready to go and then had to lie down again. So fingers crossed for the 28th.

Callum, hope you can make it, I'll keep in touch. Think you'll enjoy it, they're a bunch of chancers but they play a mean steel ;)

Danny, your mum and aunt can come show off their buns in my kitchen anytime 8-)

We could do with a Rickenbacker frypan to "batter" out some offerings like

"Pancakes by the number"
"Pancake me I'm falling"
"It's Pancake time again"
"Do not Pancake me oh my darling"
"Pancake the world go away"
"Kiss a Pancake good morning"
"Faded Pancake"
"Pancake again"
"APancake number nine"
"Mamas don't let your babies grow up to eat Pancakes"
"Our P-A-N-C-A-K-E becomes final today"
Or just eat "Pancakes on the hill like everyone else
and end the evening with the panhandle rag :guitar:
Regards Robert

As a relatively unskilled tosser, perhaps 'Pancake on the Ground' might be the one....
