Bulkington A week from today !!!!! Tuesday 8th Jan.

Postby JohnDavisStringsHere » Tue Jan 01, 2019 5:02 pm

As some of you know I have had a little hospital time just lately and it has caused me to miss my much loved gig at Bulkington, for the first time in about four and a half years! The first one I missed in December was covered for me by Barry Gaskell who came all the way down from Cheshire to do it for me and as I expected from him he did a fantastic job. I was fairly determined to be back on form for The January gig next week but it seems that is also out of my reach so, Who comes to my rescue Derek Thurlby now I am getting worried as to whether or not the band will want me back at all!! but seriously I am humbled by the quality of the friends I have found on this forum and steel players in general. I will be back! for Feb. (if the band will have me)
And if you guys want to see one of Britain's finest ..... Go to Bulkington next Tuesday, you will not be disappointed 8-)

John, you were sorely missed in December, and will be again next week, but I don't think there's any risk of the band getting rid of you - they've even kept me on, for crying out loud!!! *

I'm looking forward to meeting Derek, and will give you a [heavily biased] detailed review of his performance after the event ;)

As always, get well soon! For all other forum-ites, a trip to Bulkington is well worth it, both for the excellent band, and for the cheap beer!

* I often wonder if the reason I am still in the line-up is that there are a few songs where a rhythmic rubbing sound, akin to the bottom of a barrel being scraped, adds a certain 'je ne sais quoi' to the sound...
