A big thanks to everyone who braved the cold and made it to Siston for the last meeting of the year. I was rather disappointed with attendance as it was lower than other December meetings. We had plenty of super food on the tables which had Tim Stone's lovely wife slaving over a cooker etc for a day or so . The music was great and we had a ball. But as I have stated before if the attendance to these meetings do not improve I will just finish as the hall cannot pay it self. I will than think only a few want to know and sadly it cannot go on.

Uncle Roy, I can tell your a bit dispondent with the turnout for the Christmas meeting and I can understand that BUT!! no talk about quitting, it is not acceptable to those of us that live 180 miles away and cannot always make the distance, especially when we have a gig before or after the day, now, what we can do is give a bit of support,,,,,, so when I see you tommorow at Roy Westley's funeral there is ten quid coming your way to help pay for the hall and, I would not be surprised if there are not others on here that would offer some help.....

Thanks JD but it is not about money at the moment. It is about the number of players who don't bother supporting these clubs. The talk is big to start with and then in wains where certain guys just cannot be bothered to support the venues.
When the venue collapses they start to wonder why.
I don't expect players who live a hundred mile plus to attend these things but every steel club etc has certain amount of players living within a traveling distance of their venues. Which is a shame as you know from experience these meeting take people's time up to run.
Well that's my gripe for today. Hey ho.

Roy , It doesnt come over as a gripe or moan, it comes over as a passion that has been dented somewhat, no one will blame you for raising the issue, I only hope that attendance improves and that guys within reach realise what you are providing for the steelies community. It will be such a pity to let these events fail. I genuinly wish we had something down here in Wales or that I was a bit nearer to you guys.
All the very best Roy, dont give up.
Dave.

Sorry to hear that you are down in the dumps about visitor numbers :( I would love to attend these sessions but, as someone who travelled regularly to the Airbus Plant at Filton, I know that this is just not possible in one day. I will however make the effort to attend at least 1 session in 2015 by arranging a Travel Lodge stop over if that helps. Merry Christmas. :) :) :)

Hi Roy,

Like the others I'm sorry to hear the future of the Siston sessions being under threat through lack of support. As you know I started coming to Siston this year when our band collapsed but have been unable to make it since the summer, simply because of a clash of commitments. I expect others will have similar valid excuses. As memory tells me, you don't meet in January, so stand by for standing room only in February. BTW, Peter Kenrick is threatening to travel down next year - now that's a few miles!

Happy Christmas Roy and to all the Siston lads

Stick with it Uncle Roy, it will level itself out. The 2nd anniversary of the SSGW had one of the lowest numbers since we started. Considering your contribution and dedication to the steel guitar over the past decades, could it be time to call in a few favours? Ken has kicked it off, brilliant, now you need a few more "names" to through their hat into the ring and help out. You D Man. Donny
