- Jon and his MSA
The South London Steelies - the Bar Tenders - had their second meeting last Sunday. 10 guitars on show, including new members Jon and Tom. Jon brought a great-sounding MSA (which I think he got from John Davis) and Tom had a red Marlen which he bought from Will Cowell, which also sounded great, and which will really sing through a better amp!
Shaun provided the backing tracks and was DJ for the day - 'Mr Rizzle Picks' - and we did damage to Your Cheatin' Heart, Farewell Party (in E and C), Green Green Grass of Home and Send Me The Pillow That You Dream On. Fair to say there is a range of skill on display but also fair to say that for those of us attending for the second session, our confidence was generally higher. Matt plays extremely well and is head and shoulders above the rest of us, in tone, ability and improvisation skills, but there were also good performances from Andrew and Henry (Tooting). Tom and Jon performed well too, but the 'golden thumb-pick award' (I've just made that up!) this month goes to Barry who, as well as having a great sound with his Mullen also played some smooth and tasteful licks.
We meet again on 19 January at the 'Bread and Roses pub, Clapham Manor Street, SW4. Apologies already received from Shaun and Barry. All welcome. Contact me or Shaun via PM if you'd like to join us.

Small correction Nick: I did have a look at a Sho-Bud recently at JD's house but I got the MSA some years ago from a fellow in Colchester, name escapes me but he threw in some Lloyd Green records so I was happy.
Can't wait for the next one, it was really good fun on Sunday and a great way to get better.

Great afternoon, thanks as always Nick.
Did anyone pick up a bunch of unclaimed 1/4" leads at the end? I might have left behind 2 or 3 - can't find them anywhere at home!

Henry I've got loads of your leads round mine from when you dropped off the PA and cab - about 6 I reckon. Don't know if any of them are the missing ones, but I can drop them by Tooting this week if you need. It'll mean I have to stop playing with multi-channel phase-shited/reverb/fuzz/volume-pedaled steel, but my housemates can probably live with that.

Hey Tom, great to see the old girl getting an outing. How are you getting on with the wonderful world of steel?
