I have received a text from John Craig suggesting two tunes for this meeting, one being the Merle Haggard version of That's the Way Love Goes, I can have the track for that one out tomorrow. Listen to it on U Tube. The two man set up for each tune will continue, for 2 good reasons, it worked, you get more playing time, that can't be bad. LDN.

Last night was our June meeting of the SSGW, a bit lower on numbers, only 9, but a good night was had. I arrived at the hall at approximately 6.30pm and saw some (what I thought to be dust from a stone cutter, as there are renovations being carried out to a house across the road) it turned out to be a house fire directly opposite the hall, by the time the others had arrived it was well alight, there were 4 fire engines, ambulances and police all over the place. all routes to the hall were cordoned off and the police would not allow access to anyone. the fire was eventually extinguished and after some discussion with the fire chief, the lads were allowed to bring their cars in. Due to the above circumstances, it was a later start than usual (8.45) we soon got into the two tunes for the night.
I find It hard to believe that this October will be the tenth anniversary of the SSGW, last night when we were packing up Donny and I were talking about this and it was mentioned that some people said it would never last, yes there is a bit of thought and time goes into the running of the club, but it is well worth the effort. it would be great if we had some surprise guests to help us celebrate out Tenth.
I am still impressed by the dedication of the lads who attend month after month, and regardless of where they are on their individual steel journeys, they will all have a crack at the tunes, good on ya lads, that's what it's all about.
We missed Bob last night but it is understandable why he could not attend, I will be speaking to him later today to fill him in on the event.
Geoff, if you read this everyone sends their regards and we all wish you a speedy recovery.
Robert McNeillage and Jim Gorrie, where are you, you will both be put on the naughty step for non attendance you know.
Once again Lads, thanks for your dedication to this wonderful instrument, and thank you all for your fellowship and friendship, it means a great deal to this shattered little unit.
See you all in July
Asleep at the steel.

Thanks Willie, appreciate it

Willie and friends
My apologies for non attendance due to a back injury, I had thought of attending as a “visitor “ but I was burnt out by teatime!
In no way was I responsible for the Gartcosh fire and I hope this sick line covers me from having to climb up onto the “naughty step”!
Jim Gorrie can make his own excuses!

Well, can't claim "bad back" or "burnt out by teatime" as they've already been used by Robert!
In fact, don't have any excuse - - - just an explanation
Have been away on hols for a fortnight and in the other time available this past month just didn't have enough 'bum time on seat' and at around £2 a litre, a 105 mile round trip is an expensive way to embarrass myself!
Note to self: Must try harder.

Have to agree with you Jim the price is shocking and it is a long way . As far as embarrassing yourself that's all in your head, no one here would dare, we all make mistakes, me more than others at the moment. We are only here to help if we can. You know you're always welcome, when the tunes for next month are decided I will send them to you, then it's up to you to do the seat time if you can and if you think your ready it's the decision to drive that has to be made. AWERABEST, Donny.
