ISGF and John Davis

Postby bob adams » Wed Oct 10, 2018 12:02 am

I'm aware there is another ISGF thread here but I had to give a special mention to 'JD' our own John Davis who is making his inaugural visit to the festival in Dublin.

John has given so many years of support to the UK PSG community in supply of instruments, strings, teaching and organising superb steel meetings that many of us hold very dear to our hearts.

Now it is time for him to shine! John claims he plays from the seat of his pants but when he settles down and gives you some Red Sovine the hairs may just stand up on the back of your neck!

I would say I'd give my right arm to be there but in truth I still really need it..... however you have no idea how much I would love to be with you guys! I know you will be welcomed into the 'Dublin Family' John they are second to none!.

As for my brothers Gamble an McKillop, take very good care of them, THAT IS AN ORDER!!!

I know your good lady is not in great health John and this visit is not without some serious stress so I do trust all goes well .........you deserve a fabulous time and I do hope you get it.

so, so wish I could be there! .. I want to chat with Ted/Ivor, Pat, Gerry and so many others!

I think I best quit before I become thoroughly depressed! Bob

I second every one of Bobs words here. Just like Bob I am unable to make it to Dublin this year due to hospital visit for Silvi which can not be cancelled. Both Silvi and I are gutted about this as we really wanted to be there for John and Ethna. I know JD will perform as good as he always does on any gigs he plays. Good luck JD blow em away. Sylvi sends her love to you both. :D

Well here I am Bob’n Roy suitably embarrassed by your kind words and thought’s But, as you two have gone AWOL though not from choice I know , I will be relying on the support of my Scottish Brothers to look after me, tis completely the other way round from how you said it Bob, I have heard it said that to be surrounded by lots of real talent makes one’s bum go from half a crown to sixpence (am I allowed to say that?) so any support from north of the border led by Mssrs. Gamble and McKillop will be most welcome. There is no Red Sovine in my set but I have got a couple of Vern Gosdins tunes in mind that have a little feeling in them, If they don’t have the backing singers that Verne had on his tracks Mr Gamble and Mr McKillop could well be called upon, in truth I don’t know what I am doing over there , maybe I owe Ted a fiver and he wants it back I really don’t know.... but looking forward to it anyway...
My best to you and the old man and Roy and Sylvi

John, I wish you all the best for a fantastic time in Ireland! I have no doubt your performance will be outstanding, and I hope you get the chance to relax and enjoy the craic with fellow steelies from all over the world. Look forward to seeing the youtube clips - especially if your backing singers are as requested above

John I hope you enjoy the Irish festival. They will I'm sure enjoy you. 8-) If you are sailing to Dublin from Holyhead you will be very welcome to break your journey with a meal at Gretsch Mansions which would be half a mile off your route. Regards H. :?

Good luck John, I am confident that you will be alright, everyone knows you and if they had any doubts you would never have been invited.
I'm sure the Scottish contingency will make sure you enjoy the weekend.

Best Regards and Respects
