What do these knobs control

Postby Brinorl » Thu Mar 01, 2018 4:38 pm

Hi, I just joined you. I,m a long time guitar player, and a few months ago got a 6 string lap steel from Thomanns. One of cheapies that have been flooding the market. Well, it was crap really, but someone was doing a kit to convert the scale to 22 1/2, which I did, plus other mods. So now armed with a bit more Knowledge it was time to look for something better. I came upon a Weissenborn shaped one made by Clearwater, liked the look of it and again made a purchase. It arrived but I cant work out what does what s

Have heard from the seller, RUMC, they don't know, its an upgraded model fro the one I ordered. am awaiting further instructions. I think its wired incorrectly. It has two pups, three way selector switch , and four knobs. one seems to be volume, the others tone, but there,s hardly any difference. there,s a circuit board tucked in the cavity, and it has a battery . Looks like I send it back, or visit a whizz kid pick up man.

Brian, if it's meant to work with a battery you can bet your bottom dollar nothing much will happen if you twiddle the knobs without a battery. My guess is one volume and one tone for each pickup, the switch controlling the mix of pickups, but get a battery in there and listen before jumping to any conclusions. I have a couple of instruments by Clearwater, they don't do rubbish.

Ok, thanks for the comments. I found a chap on Youtube David Hayes, an Australian, who posts a lot of stuff. Funny thing is when I was searching to buy I had seen this model, and liked it. Now on searching again to try and find some info on my problem, there he is again, extolling the virtues of the very same model, and describes the controls as Volume, Bass, Middle, and Treble. So now I know, and I let RUMC know as well. Maybe the next move is to Pedal steel, when funds allow.
